Recertification
The Institutes' members may recertify at no charge, while non-members are required to remit a recertification fee. The initial recertification will be due the first June 30th following two years after originally passing the exam. Subsequent recertification will be due every two years on June 30th of the reporting year. Recertification requirements along with the non-member renewal fee must be received within 30 days following the due date or a late recertification fee will apply. In the beginning of each year, notification letters are sent to all certificants who are scheduled to report in that year. This reminder will advise certificants of their expected standing at the two year mark.
*Please refer to the candidate handbooks for additional information about recertification requirements.
Revocation/reinstatement
The Institutes' Certification Council has the power to deny, suspend, refuse renewal, or revoke certification for anyone who is found guilty of violating the IAPP Code of Ethics, the qualification requirements, or the recertification requirements.
AP professionals may be considered for reinstatement of their designation by submitting a request in writing to The Institutes' Certification Council within 30 days of revocation. If a reinstatement request is approved, the individual will be required to pay a reinstatement fee and agree to comply with all recertification requirements.
*Please refer to the candidate handbooks for additional information about revocation and reinstatement.
Late recertification
Certificants who do not meet the recertification requirements within 30 days of the appropriate due date may retain certification if a late recertification fee accompanies all other recertification requirements after 30 days past the due date, but within three months of the due date. If payment is not made within this time frame, the certification will be inactivated.
*Please refer to the candidate handbooks for additional information about late recertification requirements.
Inactivation/reactivation
If recertification requirements and appropriate payment are not made within the three month time frame following the recertification due date, the certificant's designation will be inactivated.
AP professionals may be considered for reactivation of their designation by submitting a request in writing within 90 days of inactivation. If the request is approved, the individual will be required to pay a reactivation fee and agree to comply with all recertification requirements.
*Please refer to the candidate handbooks for additional information about inactivation and reactivation policies.
