Want to contribute content to our online and print publications?
The Institute of Financial Operations editorial department strives to help members and other readers enhance their professional skills; build their overall knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, procure-to-pay, and automation and data capture; and improve their understanding of best practices in business and management.
Our online portal and print publications include numerous types of content and contributors:
Professional journalists
The Institute of Financial Operations is seeking business writers to handle assignments about trends in accounts payable, accounts receivable, procure-to-pay, and automation and data capture. Experience in business writing is necessary. Articles are published in our quarterly print magazine Financial Operations Matters or on our news portal at www.financialops.org. Please contact our editorial team and let us know your interest, credentials, and availability. Pay is comparable to that of similar specialty publications and is made upon acceptance of the completed, authorized article. Contact: news@financialops.org.
We rely on professional journalists to produce the following types of content:
- Feature news articlesthat contain interviews with multiple sources and take a big-picture view to focus on trends and current news in the financial operations professions.
- Case studiesthat take a close-up view of the latest methods or solutions in the financial operations professions.
- Blogs and columns designed to provoke discussion by offering observations, opinions, and sometimes humor.
Here are the submission guidelines:
- All articles are assigned by our editors to staff and contributing writers.
- To submit an idea for an article, please contact us by email with an outline or pitch and not a finished manuscript.
- We purchase worldwide first rights.
- We plan cover stories and feature articles about three months in advance.
- If your article is accepted, we ask that you submit it via email as a Word attachment.
- We require you to list the sources you used in researching and interviewing for the article, including people and their contact information; and books, research studies, websites, and other sources cited.
- We use Associated Press style in editing, with a few in-house exceptions.
- We ask that you suggest headlines, pull quotes, and call-outs we can use to highlight the article.
- Camera-ready artwork, when applicable, should be submitted electronically in resolution of 300dpi or higher for the print publication and 70dpi or higher for an online article.
Financial operations professionals
We rely on practitioners in the financial operations professions to produce the following types of content:
- Expert feature news articles that take a "how to" or "why to" approach to educate readers about the latest technologies, methods, products and services available.
- Blogs and columns designed to provoke discussion by offering observations, opinions, and sometimes humor.
Please see the submission guidelines above for guidance on how to prepare your manuscript.
Partners, vendors, and advertisers
We rely on partners, vendors, and advertisers to produce the following types of content:
- Advertorials or case studies, which give you the greatest control over your message because you pay for the space just as you would an ad and you provide the content, within certain guidelines. This is an effective vehicle for you to showcase your products and services. Here are the guidelines:
- Advertorial content may not be in direct competition with the core products and services of The Institute or its affiliates IAPP, IARP, NAPP, and TAWPI, including but not limited to membership, training, certification, and professional guidance.
- Online submissions will appear in the "Advertorial" sections on the news portal, and print submissions will be clearly identified with the words "Advertisement" or "Sponsored Content" on each page of our quarterly Financial Operations Matters magazine or our bimonthly Executive Report publications.
- In print advertorials, headline and text font or typeface may not mimic the style of the Financial Operations Matters magazine pages because they must be clearly distinguishable from editorial content.
- For print advertorials, pages must be submitted as camera-ready, in accordance with established deadlines. Writing and design services are available at an additional cost and may require additional lead time.
Space must be reserved through our advertising department in accordance with established deadlines – generally two weeks prior to publication for online submissions and three months prior to publication for print submissions. Contact the advertising department for details about rates and specifications.
- Feature articlesthat fit in with our editorial mission and calendar. These are published at no cost to the contributor and are subject to editing, including but not limited to wording, length, style, spelling, and grammar. We may contact you to discuss substantive changes based on our editorial judgment. Articles are identified with the author's title and company name. We strongly recommend that you submit a summary of your article for consideration before investing significant time in writing. Send an email to news@financialops.org.
- Expert point of view for articles written by our professional journalists. Let us know your company's areas of expertise and the people authorized to speak to the media. Also, we are interested in your help connecting with your clients and customers for their points of view to be included in case studies and other articles.
- Suggested topics for any type of article, which may be submitted formally through a press release or more informally through an email outlining the idea and possible contacts. Send either type of suggestion to news@financialops.org.
We thank you for considering The Institute. We rely on your expertise and input to produce our editorial products. Thank you for your interest!
