Walmart Outsourcing Undetermined Number of Jobs at Charlotte Facility

CHARLOTTE, NC--An undetermined number of jobs at a Walmart facility in Charlotte are being outsourced, according to the company.

Walmart is expanding its partnership with Genpact, a professional services firm that handles finance and accounting services and digital transformation.

Those jobs were being handled in-house by Walmart at its Global Business Services office in a business park on Water Ride Parkway in Charlotte.

“This was a difficult decision that affects friends and associates we care about deeply," a Walmart spokesperson said in a statement. "We appreciate their important contributions, and we’re committed to handling every transition over the next seven months smoothly and respectfully. We are maintaining a corporate presence in Charlotte. As our company continues evolving, we’ve said we must strike the right balance between managing the needs of our business, our associates and our customers."

Those jobs will be phased out incrementally beginning in September and continuing through January, according to Walmart.

“Our Charlotte center plays an important role in our GBS business and it will continue to house our People Solutions team and we have a Walmart U.S. regional office in the facility,” the statement said.

Walmart would not say how many jobs are affected, but did point out that it would be helping those workers with resume building, interview skills, and job fairs.

In addition, Walmart says that affected associates will receive a retention payment for staying through the transition of their work. Once the transition period has ended, all eligible associates will be offered a severance package as outlined in the company severance policy.

Walmart is one of North Carolina’s largest employers with more than 56,000 workers.
